Yes you are eligible for lecturer jobs, BUT only after you pass out your Master Degree. Since very clearly you have mentioned lecturer jobs, this is the real case that I must mention here. One more thing is that contractual jobs are something which may not be applicable in your case. Contractual jobs in today's case is for permanent teacher. Permanency in lectureship jobs would not be applicable if you are not a JRF initially and a PhD. eventually. Since you are currently a B.Tech student, what you do is for an M.E. If you clear your M.E. course effectively, you will be eligible for part time lectureship in Government Engineering Colleges. Now what you do is, do not invest separate time for the PhD. program. While being in this part time lectureship, publish few papers on different problems, related to your engineering branch of study. After you do this, approach a guide who had earlier guided students for PhD. programs. If your guide becomes ready, then you will tell you if you need to give separate examinations to do a PhD. under him or just approaching a problem under his guidance will be sufficient. After that target to complete within 5 years. When you submit your thesis, if it gets selected, then you can produce that degree in your institute for a permanent post.
