    All India Bar Examination

    All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is to be conducted for the first time on 5th December 2010. It is an ‘open-book’ entrance examination to test the eligibility of a lawyer to practice in the courts in India. This exam will be mandatory for all the law graduates from the year 2009-10 onwards. This decision was taken by Bar Council of India (BCI) and they itself took up the responsibility of conducting the examination this year onwards.

    Structure and Pattern of AIBE
    The exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions which have to be answered in Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet. The maximum duration of the exam is 3 hours 30 minutes. The examination will be conducted across the country. Though it follows ‘open-book’ format the candidates can bring in any reading materials, text books and treatises or hand written notes. They are not allowed to bring any other electronic devices like laptop, mobile phones or any device equipped with a radio receiver.

    The results of the examination will state whether the candidate is qualified or not qualified. Marks or rankings will not be provided. The model question paper is available from the official website of Bar Council of India. The result of the first exam will be declared on December 31st. From next year onwards AIBE will be conducted twice a year a year ie; April and November.
    AIBE will be conducted in nine languages: Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya and English.

    Syllabus of AIBE
    The questions for AIBE are Knowledge -based and Reasoning-based. There will be 20 subjects covered for the exam. These subjects are selected from the syllabi prescribed by BCI for both three-years and five-year LLB programmes ( as set under Schedule I to the Bar Council of India Rules)
    Topics covered in the exam include dispute resolution, civil procedure code, constitutional law, contract law, criminal law, Indian penal code, Criminal procedure, drafting and pleading, evidence, jurisprudence, professional ethics, property law, administrative law, company law, environmental law, family law, human rights law, labor law, law of tort including motor vehicle insurance, taxation law and public international law.

    Qualification criteria for AIBE
    The candidates who has enrolled as an Advocate under Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961 are eligible for All India Bar Examination. These candidates have to submit proof of enrolment along with the application form.

    Application Procedure for AIBE
    Online application forms are available from July 15th, 2010 onwards. The application fee for the exam is Rs.1,300/- which includes the cost of receiving preparatory materials. For repeat exams the cost of application form is Rs.700 excluding preparatory materials. The application form is also in the OMR format. It can be downloaded from the official website and filled in. After that it can be send across to the address along with the DD and required documents for proof.Incase the candidates are having any doubts, they can go through the website of BCI to get the instructions in filling it up.

    sir , i am durai saravanan for tamil nadu. srivilliputtur. i want change of exam center from chennai to kochi. what procedure for that. i am complted on 2010 july. and enrollded as advocate in madras bar council on 2010 oct 30. but i choose exam centre chennai. on that time. i want to change it from chennai to kochi . on coming examination. i request to me reply please. thankin g you.
